Good Value Feb 10, 2010 So far so good. A little complicated to set up but then I expected that. Really good sound quality although I would like to adjust the EQ myself rather than just go with the factory settings. Also wish the wires were of a higher quality. Also-- I was aware as any future buyer should be-- this is not completely wireless. Read the fine print. I did and I bought it any way and I am still happy.

I wouldn't recommend this to an enemie Jan 31, 2010 This is an out dated piece of equipment. I don't have a recommendation as to what to buy instead, but please save your money, this is not worth it. Buy a newer piece of equipment. Also, the dvd player makes a horrible grinding noise, which tech support said was normal. I don't think so. Thanks for listening.

Great Value Feb 12, 2009 We purchased this system as a replacement for a Sony system we bought years ago. Times have changed, but the Sony quality in their sound systems have not.
We went through all sorts of electronics stores comparing price versus sound, etc., etc. We continuously came back to this unit due to the Sony name, sound quality, and price. It's not a Bose system, but that's also reflected in the price. I don't think anyone will find a better home theater in a box for the money.
That being said, there are a couple things people should know.
DVD - great! We threw Star Wars in as our first video to see how this system would respond. Better than being in the theater. I was told to get the top-of-the-line monster cable and as far as I can tell it was the right thing to do.
TV - You are not going to match the sound of a DVD by running your TV through the system. We have a Sony TV, and it has fairly decent sound, and this system is an upgrade, but not too much. Don't expect anything on HBO or cable to sound anywhere near your DVDs.
MP3 Port - Exactly what you'd probably expect. Sounds very good. I'm the only one in my household who doesn't own an IPOD or anything of the sort, but I am well aware that it sounds very good,
Set-Up is fairly easy. I misunderstood the concept of wireless speakers. I had installed my wall mounts prior to working with the rear speakers, and then I found out that they're actually wired to a transmitter that is wireless. I wouldn't have been so keen on mounting the rear speakers on the walls, if I had known I was going to have to run wires to them. Well, I actually have the trasmitter sitting right next to the main receiver, so it's not as if I'm even using the "wireless" feature. Oh well, a little tack on the wires and it looks fine. This is my only real complaint.
Great system. I have recommended it to family members who are currently shopping.
