Form over function Nov 19, 2008 I have used a sub $30 jabra bt125 for the past year and have been very happy with its performance. My friends however would complain about the sound quality so I wanted something with noise cancellation. The jawbone has been unanimously the top pick from every source I can find. The ratings for this unit are either manufactured or provided by people who are more enamoured with the look than the functionality.
While others tell me that they can hear me fairly well, the audio I get is scratchy, and not very loud (using with iphone). The buttons are completely conceled and when I try to adjust the unit get inadvertently pressed, cutting people off. Trying to use the buttons is extremely awkward.
I am going to try the plantronics discovery 925 which a friend tells me is working very well for him.
I guess if you think the jawbone is too cool looking to pass up then be my guest but functionally this thing is a joke.
Excellent earpiece, but doesn't live up to expectations Nov 19, 2008 When deciding to spend $100 on a BlueTooth earpiece, you have expectations that you wish to be met. While in large part this unit does what it says, it misses in one important area.
The "Noise Assassin" feature does not produce the dramatic reduction in noise that their marketing will have you believe. Their video demonstration of the unit shows a lady walking through a construction zone, turning on the noise assassin feature, and you can then only hear her voice.
My personal experience is nothing like that. It works fantastic in a quiet environment - better than any other I've used. It absolutely does filter out background noise...if it's not loud. In cases where I'm walking down busy city street, it doesn't appear to filter nearly as much background noise.
This product gets 4 out of 5 stars because I do like it a lot. When I'm driving in my car, it filters out all of the noise that other headsets do not. However, in a noisy environment it doesn't live up to the claims of the manufacturer.
Even so, I still recommend this unit. I don't think it's worth the manufacturer recommended $120, but if you can get it for $75-$90 I think it's a good deal.
This Thing is an Expensive Junk Show Nov 17, 2008 A friend did some research and the industry reviews said best of market for this thing. Well in the real world, junk. I bought a cheap Plantronics and it did the job clearer, better and with a better fit, largely due to the better design.
Surprised Nov 17, 2008 I have never been happier with an earphone. After reading some of the reviews I was kind of leery, but I was also desperate. I needed something that would cut out the background noise in my work environment, so I could talk and participate in a series of conference calls.
My work environment has racks of computers with multiple fans and a large air conditioner. A lot of times people can hear the background noise and on a conference call I'm sure this would be rather annoying.
I tested a couple of times with friends and they couldn't tell I was in the computer room. In fact some of those that I called thought I was on a late lunch or something since they couldn't hear the background noise. During the first conference call I checked with a friend and they said they couldn't hear anything other than my voice.
Like others I had problems with readjusted the headset. You press on the top and you hang up, so you have to be careful about this. For the most part though it doesn't require readjustment, it just takes some getting used to have it on your ear if your not used to having an earphone in.
The other concern was whether it would stay on. I can recall only once where I ran into a problem and it just didn't seem to want to stay put. This is one of the times I hung up on a caller, while readjusting it. I'm also a big guy so this may be one of the reasons why I never ran into a problem with the mic not touching my cheek.
So if they could fix the way you hang up on phone calls this would be perfect, but for the most part I just put it on and I'm set.
Four stars because they have a flaw in their design that should be easy to fix and should have been picked up during user testing.
Jawbone II, Bluetooth Earpiece Nov 17, 2008 Best Bluetooth earpiece I've had... out of 5 different manufacturers in the past 6 years.
Noise cancellation is great... I can still be heard in my convertible with the top down!
